review 1: Sleeth is an ER doctor as well as an everyday theologian. His writing is patient and kind, exactly what I'd want from someone helping me during an unexpected hospital visit. This book makes a good case for slowing down, resting and enjoying life. And, if he were to prescribe an antidote for our excessive need for consumption, I imagine he'd design community Sabbath--one day a week where work stopped for everyone. At times I found his statements to be over-the-top like when he states people were measurably happier in the 1950s than they are today; and perhaps that's due to the fact that many communities had Sabbath observance. But, where he shines is in retelling medical cases that illustrate his points. Sabbath is something that many people, not just religious ones, can ... morepractice to foster a happier and healthier life. An easy Sabbath read--with a nice nap in the middle.
review 2: I always weary of these kind of books, they usually take more forever to get through; I would rather read a story with a plot, but this was given to me as a gift so I wanted to reciprocate and read the gift. I thought the message was spot on with a lot of thinking I had come to on my own or have been tossing around in my mind. This book put thoughts together with solid day to day examples without laying a heavy guilt on you. I was able to blast through the book fairly quickly, for myself anyway. If you are a believer or not there is some real though provoking ideas to what it means rest and how we need it physically and mentally. I felt the book was a reaffirming voice of reason in my mind and well worth the read. less

An easy read (in a good way) that gives some great insight and overview of Sabbath keeping.

Especially enjoyed his stories of being salt and light as a nurse.
Pala
Pretty fluffy but a good reminder to slow down, stop, and breath.

Realize a time to rest is a time to get to know Him!
