Can you believe October is already over?? Four weeks passed by so freaking quickly. For the last week of Booktober I picked the “scariest” book on my shelf. So I went with Monster Hunter Alpha.
In the first two books our main character is Owen Pitt, but not in this one. In Monster Hunter Alpha our main character is Earl Harbinger. Earl is on his first holidays in a very long time. But monsters know no holidays. So Earl ends up in Copper Lake with a serious werewolf problem.
I think I already said it a few times, but let me say it again. I’m a big fan of this series. The books are fun to read and packed with lots of action and supernatural creatures. This was the book that got me interested in the series in the first place.
So what did I like about this book?
One thing I loved was the change in characters. It’s not about Owen this time and we don’t even see any other members of our main hunter team. We don’t even see Franks or Myers from the MCB. The only hunter we know in this book is Earl. Not that I don’t like the others – I love everyone in MHI – but this change was refreshing. And since this book was all about Earl we got to learn more about his past. And man .. Earl has some past.
Another thing I liked was the plot itself. The plot revolves around Earl. We meet a few people from his past. One of them is the reason Earl ends up in Copper Lake in the first place. And another one is the reason why shit is going down there. And then this freaking plot twist in the middle of the book. I was not expecting that.
All in all I would give the book 4 out of 5 stars.
