Weekly Snapshot 20.01.18

I hope everyone’s had a great week! (By everyone I mean the 4 readers that I actually have.) I personally have had a pretty productive one. Finally beginning to get out of my little blogging rut, but let’s not speak too soon…

“The moment you accept yourself, you become beautiful.”

—  Osho

This actually has an interesting story behind it. One day, probably around the beginning of August 2017, I was getting a drink from a local coffee shop. They usually put up inspirational quotes on their wall, but I never noticed it until this one magical day. I was at the beginning of my spiritual journey and I was feeling quite crappy body image wise at the time. Whilst waiting for my drink, I looked up and saw this exact quote from Osho. I think I froze for a minute and smirked because I couldn’t believe how appropriate it was for me. Since then, I’ve read multiple books by Osho, and many more from all the wonderful writers out there in this spiritual realm.

Speaking of books… That was a swift segue onto the book I’ve read this week…

The Wisdom of Sundays: Life-Changing Insights from Super Soul Conversations by Oprah Winfrey

Not gonna lie, the reason I bought this book was because I saw the pretty cover and the beautiful photos inside; I thought it would be a nice to put on display. Luckily, turns out it’s an amazing book too.

This is a collection of the ‘aha’ moments that Oprah has had whilst interviewing some of the greatest inspirational people in the world. I found myself constantly nodding and thinking ‘SO MUCH YES’ to every single word in this book. It’s one that I will definitely come back to every once in a while, even if it’s just to read a page or to, just to keep me present and inspired. Something about it makes me feel completely blissed out whenever I read this. I’ve even read a page or two before my morning meditations to give me a focus for the day. Needless to say, it was extremely difficult for me to only choose several quotes from the book to share. You’ll just have to get it yourself and read it.

“You’re allowed to say, ‘I don’t know,’ and you’re allowed to ask for as much time as you need until you know. And if somebody doesn’t want to give you that time, they’re allowed to leave. But you’re allowed to sit with your ‘I don’t know’.” – Elizabeth Gilbert

“I believe everyone has a God-size hole inside of them that we try to fill with shopping or with a relationship or food or sex or drugs. But it’s not out there. It’s in here. It’s an internal connection.; – Mastin Kipp

“Forgiveness is giving up the hope that the past could be any different.” It’s accepting the past for what it was and using this moment and this time to help yourself move forward. – Oprah”

To be honest, I wasn’t too keen on this photo when I first took it. But the I kept looking at it afterwards and just stared at the moon for ages. I think it reminds me how small we are in the world, and how insignificant our problems really are in the grand scheme of things. It makes me think of all the space in the world, both within us and outside of us. That space is exactly where mindfulness and spiritual realisation occurs. (I remember reading that in one of Eckhart Tolle’s books but I’m sure he put it much better than I just did.)

Just Tonight – The Pretty Reckless

I love singing this song and just belting it out when I’m alone. I was obsessed with The Pretty Reckless around 5 years ago and still love their songs till this day. One of my friends complained that I only listen to sad or slow songs which tend to put him to sleep. But what can I say, I’m a granny at heart with a dark soul and music to match it.
