Why Leo Valdez is Awesome (and how ToA ruined it)

Why I Love(d) Leo

In the beginning, I loved Leo Valdez. I believe the reasons why I liked him so much (to the point that I was obsessed) was because of his tragic background and good humor. Of course those aren’t the only reasons because then it would seem like I’m just pitying him. The way he was described in the books is basically what I consider as “attractive”. He has curly black hair, brown eyes, a slim build, and a mischievous smile. So in summary, he’s hot. Literally and figuratively. Another thing that was “attractive” to me was his personality because obviously I wouldn’t like someone just for their looks (especially if it’s from a book series with horrid past fan art. *gets scary flashbacks*). I also loved how he was handy with things and how he sacrificed himself for his friends. If you read my past post, you would already know that I loved the concept of Caleo in HoO. They were both lonely people, had bad family relationships, were heartbroken, and were outcasts. Not to mention the romantic quote, “‘I’m coming back for you, Calypso,’ he said to the night wind. ‘I swear it on the River Styx'”.

When he finally found his “true” love, I liked his character even more. And when he went back to Ogygia, their reunion scene made my heart swell with happiness for them (with a hint of jealously). However, the last page of The Blood of Olympus was questionable and I checked to make sure a chapter wasn’t ripped out or something because it was really cut off. Most of my friends also agreed and that’s a big reason why some of them stopped reading Percy Jackson
