review 1: This was a very good story. It grabbed my attention from page one and was hard to put down. The reason I couldn't give this book 5 stars, is because of edit issues. For example; the boys are 4 and in Kindergarten, which could make sense if they were in Australia. However, a few chapters later they were in Preschool. Also, does Australia have a target and a Kmart? To be honest, for most of the book I thought they could be in the U.S, however the spelling and language told me Australia or England.. I was a little confused by that, but the story was really good anyway. This story is about over coming tragedy, anger and fear, and learning to love, which would change Kalli dramatically. However, near the end, I starting feeling like Kalli completely changed her personality, whic... moreh really didn't seem realistic. That said, it was a good story that pulled me in and didn't let go until the end.
review 2: I received an ARC in exchange for an honest opinion. I usually approach ARC's with a good deal of wariness- put it this way, if I give a good review to an ARC, it's because its really good, not because I feel obligated to. This book was excellent. It was gritty and real, the characters were alive and realistic. I did not realize it had graphic scenes with child abuse in it, so that was a little hard to read. Yes, there is a lot of romance, some disturbing behavior, but it all fit into the storyline. There were a few grammar mistakes, but I was not sure if they were mistakes or the Australian dialect that I misunderstood. The reason I took off a star is because I felt that Kalli's mother turned around too quickly- one page she was a complete addict, and the next day she was clean. I felt it just happened to fast- that part of the story could have been developed more. I also felt that Kalli's feelings towards Nate became clear too fast- one second she was jumping every guy she sees, and the next second she is reformed and wants to be better. I feel like I missed that transformation somewhere. All in all, it was a great read. less
