review 1: While I liked this book better than the first one, but only because we got to see more of Ilyan (oh my gosh he is so perfect!), it still didn't earn four stars. Joclyn is one of the most annoying, whiny, infuriating heroines I've read in a while. I felt a bit bad for her near the end of the book, but for the first half I wanted to wring her neck. Most of the book consisted of her pining for her Long Lost Love who now has no memories of her and wants to kill her-- all the while flinching away from this AMAZING friend who has always been there for her and who selflessly puts her and her desires and safety first with no thought to himself. Ilyan would treat her SO well. He's the most endearing, GOOD, selfless person in the whole wide world and every single freaking time he wo... moreuld touch her cheek or touch her shoulder or basically just touch her to heal or comfort her, she'd complain and flinch away and gripe in her narrative about how uncomfortable she was. UGH STOP IT. LIGHTEN UP. They did get some SWEET MOMENTS THOUGH... but overall Joclyn gave me a horrible whiplash. And it doesn't help that this stupid triangle came to an ugly head in this book, because I hate love triangles with a fiery passion. Having a heroine that already grates on me and throwing her at the center of a love triangle made everything worse. Luckily, most of this nonsense was solved by the end of the book (including the triangle)... which, sadly, keeps me curious enough about the next books. If I wasn't so enamored with Ilyan and just how CUTE AND ADORKABLE AND GOOD AND PROTECTIVE he is, I'd have quit this series. I'm excited to read book 3, because rumor has it we get some of book 2 through his PoV. And I live for Ilyan's PoV. It'll hopefully prove to be a nice break from Joclyn's narrative.
review 2: FUCK NO. FUCK NO. FUCK NO. NO Ilyan. NO. NO NO NO NO NO N ONOONONONFV'LEEDK;M FUCK. NO. GO DIE LOVE TRIANGLE! I'm disappointed in you. Author and Jos. To even look at another guy while Ry exists is just WRONG. He's the shit! He is EVERYTHING. He GIVES everything! He's her EVERYTHING too! ughn I'm getting angry just thinking about a forced fake-love triangle! There is only one hero in this series and that is Ry. That's a said and done thing. Adding a newbie fake-love interest just shows you're biding your time, making up a hateful plot to get the end in which Ry is returned to Jos, any fake-love interests that show up are just that. FAKE and wasting time. I just want to pick this book up and read the ending... I only want Ry's happiness. And my happiness is Ry and Jos happy together. less
