review 1: I thought this installment was a SUPER easy read...I found myself skimming this book instead of really taking the time to fully immerse myself in the story; I was not as invested in this book as much as I had been with the previous two. The connection with Joclyn was gone, replaced by the thoughts and actions of two other characters. While I appreciate their insights and understand the necessity of adding their POVs in terms of moving the storyline along, I really just wanted to see what happened with Joclyn.I was disappointed to learn that (almost) this entire book was in written in two other character's POVs. I really wanted to know what was going to happen with Joclyn, especially after finding out in the second installment of this series that she is afraid of and pretty... more much hates Ryland. Because of this I was disgruntled due to the fact that this book, essentially, took a step back to reexamine what happened in the previous book instead of truly continuing the story. Like I said, I could have done without an ENTIRE book in other character's point of views, but I do have to admit that I really loved reading about Ilyan's concerns for Joclyn as she practically sat in bed dying. He was so concerned, so sweet, and all around an awesome person!! It is sad, though, that Ryland has essentially been turned into a weapon against the world and, most importantly, against Joclyn. Though I don't like this pairing that much, I AM a sucker for young love:) But on the other hand, I really hope that Joclyn and Ilyan fall in love more than just a "forbidden romance" type of situation. Joclyn, in my opinion, loves Ryland because she has a history with him and her love for him is only shattered (even I have to admit) in a sad way via torture in Cail's mind. I can't help but feel like she was actually falling in love with Ilyan when they spent months together in hiding. She came to understand him and like him because he took care of her while practically dying. Also, I think Joclyn falls truly in love with Ilyan when she learns that he knew for nearly one thousand years that he would one day meet and fall in love with her and, despite this, did not try to break her and Ryland apart. I am kind of disappointed because it seems (to me, at least) that Joclyn only really falls for Ilyan towards the end of this book because she is in such a fragile state from being tortured. So, even though I'm happy that their relationship is growing into something more, I'm sad about the reason behind the growing love. Overall, I was slightly disappointed in this book, enough so that I still have not read the fourth installment, and, honestly, I don't know if I will.
review 2: ~~~~~~4.5 Stars~~~~~~I really thought that I would be miserable with a book revolving around 2 POVs, one of which I was sure would bore me, based on story we already read in the last book. I mean who really cares about her best friend Wyn's POV right? WRONG! Granted, it was slow in the beginning but it all made sense in the end. Now I can't believe how silly I was to think that we didn't need to know what every other character went through because that is what this book delivers. We even get to understand Cail and his motivations along with some answers to why he's so cracked. This book answers a LOT so hang in there and in the end we are back to Jos's POV and boy is it worth it. I'm headed straight to book #4 less
