review 1: Great characters in this book, complex, relatable and empathetic. Early on it's hard to figure out what's wrong with the main character. She has some sort of power and the reader goes along as she tries to figure it out. The story is complicated when elementals start showing up--different races of paranormal people. There's a lot of information in a short period of time. I was confused at first but as I kept reading the author did a good job of reminding the reader who was who until you had it all straight: immortal or not, elemental or dual race. Clearly the first book in a series, this reads well by itself too.
review 2: Have you ever been scared to blink for fear you might miss something? This book, the characters in the book grab you and leave you with that
... more feeling right up until the very end. There's so much info to take in and so many people to try and figure out. The details (an amazing amount of research on Hamilton's part) alone were fascinating. You quickly find yourself on the edge of your seat, biting your nails, checking the clock hoping it started going backwards so you can justify another hour to read...I haven't read many books about witches/wiccans but thanks to Hamilton, I'll be adding quite a few more to my TBR pile while I wait for her next installment. less
