review 1: This book is absolutely adorable and one that any elementary school student would love to read, but especially girls. Throughout the entire book the main character is using her imagination to pretend that she is a cowgirl. Everyday chores that she would normally do become one that a cowgirl would do. At the end when she gets a "horse" (bicycle) for her birthday, she finds that what she had been looking for could be obtainable after all! This is a great book to promote imagination in children which is something that I think is very important in child play as they grow up. This book also gets children to think about voice in their writing as it is written all in the voice of a cowgirl.

Any picture book with even a small mention of horses is sure to fly off the shelves, and this is no exception. Since I work in a rural school, many of the girls that visit the school library really do live around horses, so this may appeal to them. Then again, since the main character does not end up with a "real" horse, the story could be a bit disappointing.Students who love to pretend and have vivid imaginations will definitely enjoy this book. Students who are extremely literal, however, will question every single page. (But that's fun sometimes.)The illustrations in this book are extremely vibrant and engaging and will encourage readers--boys and girls alike--to find out if this cowgirl does indeed get her horse. less
