review 1: This book is about the new animals discovered during a ten year project of documenting sea life, describing new species of such creatures as jellyfish, octopuses, squids, sea worms, and crabs, found along coral reefs, ocean mountain ranges, and in the dark zone. I am a big fan of the ocean and the many things that are living in the water. This has beautiful and colorful pictures of the things discovered. This can be easily used in a science classroom.
review 2: I originally got this for my son, who wants to be a marine biologist someday. However, the text is a little old for him. We'll still look at the pictures, but I'll have to read it to him. But this was a wonderful book! I'd recommend for about fourth grade up because of the vocabulary, but the story w... moreill hook any kid interested in ocean life. The photographs are beautiful, and I loved the maps that showed not only where the animals were found on the planet, but also in which kind of sea environment. The style of writing in the second person also adds to the excitement of the book, and this is the first time (other than Choose-Your-Own-Adventure) that I have actually enjoyed this point of view in children's literature. less
