This is a meme hosted by @lostinastory. And it basically works by looking at the books on your Goodreads TBR and deciding whether you want to keep them or not. It’s so strange looking back at all these books which have been on my TBR for years, probably, and it feels so good to be filtering through and getting rid of some of them.
What to do…
- Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken
A mysterious disease has killed most of America’s children. Pressured by the government, Ruby’s parents sent her to Thurmond, a brutal state ‘rehabilitation camp’, where she has learned to fear and suppress her new power. I’ve heard so much about this series and Alexandra Bracken so it’s a mystery as to why I haven’t started this one yet. To be fair, the description doesn’t strike as being particularly unique but I’ve heard so many good things that I feel like I can’t not read this book.

The Body Finder by Kimberly Derting
Violet is hiding two secrets. The first is her new feelings for her childhood friend Jay. The second is her morbid ability to sense the dead…and the people who killed them. Violet has never considered her ability to be a gift, but when a serial killer begins terrorizing her small town, Violet realizes she may be the only one who can stop him. Ever protective of her, Jay agrees to help Violet, and as they search, Violet realizes she isn’t the only one whose emotions have changed. But as they fall in love, Violet gets closer to discovering the killer…and becoming his prey herself.
After reading the description for this, I was considering keeping it on my TBR. But… I then glanced through the reviews and they were mostly on the negative side. I don’t think this book will live up to my expectations if I did read it and, therefore, it’s gotta go.

Unwind by Neal Shusterman
The Second Civil War was fought over reproductive rights. The chilling resolution: Life is inviolable from the moment of conception until age thirteen. Between the ages of thirteen and eighteen, however, parents can have their child “unwound,” whereby all of the child’s organs are transplanted into different donors, so life doesn’t technically end. Connor is too difficult for his parents to control. Risa, a ward of the state, is not enough to be kept alive. And Lev is a tithe, a child conceived and raised to be unwound. Together, they may have a chance to escape and to survive.
There have been lots of dystopian books hidden in the depths of my TBR and now my tastes have changed and I’m not all that interested in them anymore. And despite this book have good reviews, I don’t think it’s something I’m ever going to read.

The Name of the Star by Maureen Johnson
Rory has just arrived at boarding school in London when a Jack the Ripper copycat-killer begins terrorising the city. All the hallmarks of his infamous murders are frighteningly present, but there are few clues to the killer’s identity. “Rippermania” grabs hold of modern-day London, and the police are stumped with few leads and no witnesses. Except one. In an unknown city with few friends to turn to, Rory makes a chilling discovery…Could the copycat murderer really be Jack the Ripper back from the grave?
This is another one of those books where the premise sounds great but it hasn’t gotten the best reviews. I also think, personally, this is one of those books I’ll never get around to because I’ve got heaps of books on my TBR that I’m more excited about.

The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater
It happens at the start of every November: the Scorpio Races. Riders attempt to keep hold of their water horses long enough to make it to the finish line. Some riders live. Others die. Sean is the returning champion. He is a young man of few words, and if he has any fears, he keeps them buried deep, where no one else can see them. Puck is different. She never meant to ride in the Scorpio Races. But fate hasn’t given her much of a chance. So she enters the competition — the first girl ever to do so. She is in no way prepared for what is going to happen
I’m definitely keeping this one! It’s written by Maggie Stiefvater so how could I not read it? The story seems unique and like something I’ve not read before, but definitely would like to!
