review 1: Nakaba is a very admirable heroine. She has learned to recognize when someone is starting to like her more than as a friend, and she doesn't want to take advantage of them. She knows what's right and wrong. She saves a "taboo child"-a child of Ajin and Human parentage- from an avalanche, and this relates back to Loki, whom we finally get closure on. Nakaba has two options to which she must take and a certain flashback of Loki after killing someone is finally revealed. Nakaba decides to change that future, to stop him from "becoming an animal" but has she herself become one?This manga has a surprising amount of depth to it, and does a good job at showing all the shades of the human heart and what we are capable of when we are faced with life or death, love or hate, killing ... moreor mercy.
review 2: Is is me, or does Nakaba's whole taking-the-prince-hostage-to-make-the-king-change-his-will thing make zero sense? I mean, her motivations make sense, but she can only control the king's actions for as long as she's actually standing in front of him with a knife to Prince Adel's throat. Can't he just change his will back as soon as she lets go of the prince? Plus, it seems a little unlikely that the will would even be valid without witnesses.Also, so, Nakaba and Caesar annul their marriage to marry other people that they don't love, opaquely for political gain. It's made clear, though, that Nakaba refuses to consummate her marriage to Prince Adel. I'll feel a lot more comfortable about Nakaba and Caesar's continued (if long-distance and semi-secret) love for each other if it becomes equally clear that he is refusing to consummate his new marriage to Louise. (I mean, she's in love with someone else anyway. Someone dead, but still.) I feel like there's often a double-standard here. Plus, it would be really sad if Nakaba and/or Caesar, after being unwillingly married and then slowly growing to love each other, but not yet managing to sleep together, then end up sleeping with other people in loveless marriages. less
