review 1: In The Start-Up of You, Reid Hoffman and Ben Casnocha put forward the theory that "all humans are entrepreneurs not because they should start companies but because the will to create is encoded in human DNA, and creation is the essence of entrepreneurship." As such, this "career-guidance" book approaches the subject from an entrepreneur point of view. This is a highly positive, encouraging book that asks the reader to treat their career as an entrepreneurship and to teach them the methods on doing so. But, what makes this book good is the mindset that it imparts - "permanent beta."In the opening chapter, Reid Hoffman wrote:"For entrepreneurs, finished is an F-word. They know that great companies are always evolving. Finished ought to be an F-word for all of us. We are all w... moreorks in progress. Each day represents an opportunity to learn more, do more, be more, grow more in our lives and careers. Keeping your career in permanent beta forces you to acknowledge that you have bugs, that there's new development to do on yourself, that you will need to adapt and evolve."What a positive mindset!I love this book because it encourages the reader to constantly grow themselves, and in later chapters, he teaches the method on how to do so.However, like all "career-guidance" book, this is written from the perspective of the author; Reid Hoffman is sharing what has worked for him, and what he thinks, will work for everyone in general. While I generally agree with the author's method on navigating our career, readers will unlikely be able to adopt every single tactic. This is not meant to criticise the book - rather, it is to set a realistic expectation of the book.
