review 1: The story of Maier and her work is an interesting one, and the photographs presented are very good. They're not great, in my opinion, and calling her the "female Robert Frank" is quite an exaggeration, as she's not nearly in his league. Technically, her work is spot-on, and she appears to have mastered her camera and exposure. She's got a good eye, too, finding the interesting among the everyday. There's just nothing mindblowing going on. Which is okay. Not every monograph can be a masterpiece, and this one is worth reading and possibly adding to one's collection.
