Chronicles of the Pneumatic Zeppelin
review 1: Romulus Buckle captains the Pneumatic Zeppelin. In a world three hundred years in the future, after the Martians invaded, life is completely different. It is a nuclear winter with different clans fighting from dominance in a ruined California. Romulus is a member of the Crankshaft clan and the clan leader, Balthazar, has been kidnapped, along with the leader of the Imperial clan, General Smelt, as well as Lady Andromoda, head of the Alchemists. Captain Buckle, along with his crew, break into the City of the Founders to rescue all of them. Great steampunk details, but the stour did not enthrall me as much as I wanted. The first of a series, it appears more adventures await Captain Buckle and his crew.
review 2: Swashbuckling steampunk adventure! Set in a post-ap
... moreocalyptic Southern California, this entertaining read moves the steampunk genre in a whole new direction, at least for me. Lots of action and adventure as the crew of the Pneumatic Zeppelin set out to rescue their kidnapped clan-leader from the supposedly impregnable stronghold of a rival clan. Solid characters and a fully realized technology kept the story moving well. The only real weakness I saw - and the reason I didn't give it five stars - was that the background to the story was rather sketchy. You know that the Earth was attacked by Martians and most of civilization destroyed but there's no explanation as to how or why the Martians attacked, if they are still around or not, or why the human survivors formed into different clans. This made it a little difficult at times to understand some of the characters' motivations and animosities. Hopefully, the next book in the series will fill in some of the blanks. I'm looking forward to reading it. less

I gave this book a 2 because all it does is set you up to HAVE to read the next book. I hate that!

Great book. A little bit short though. If you like steam punk, you should read it.
