review 1: The book had so much promise - so much important research that the author had done that ought to be shared. But less than half the book is about his contributions. Worst, his solution to almost everything is, "meditate." Meditation is certainly useful, but it's not a cure-all and its effects are smaller than what he indicates. Three chapters spent building up meditation is a bit too much for me. There was no mention of the dozens of other positive psychology exercises that have been study. Another small point is that the author is obviously bitter. Rightfully so, for having his work scorned for so long, but that's no reason to annoy us with it.
review 2: Like many others who do research for an entire career on a single aspect of a larger field of study Davidson
... more developed a model to encompass the research he spearheaded on emotions. He made an important contribution by highlighting the importance of emotions in our understanding of the brain's functioning but his model in no way covered all that emotion is nor how it interacts with all of our cognitive behaviors. His six styles of emotion are not completely distinct nor do they cover all manifestations of our emotions. I recommend this book because it subject but not for any particular science it represents. less
