review 1: Hard work at first, but definitely worth seeing it through! This was my first read from Montanari and even when picking the book off the shelf, I was hesitant; I wasn't sure what to expect and I guess that's what finally got me to purchase the book. The Killing Room takes you on a rollercoaster of emotions. The first part of the book has you hooked, the next a little bored, and then again has you hooked - there were times when I put it down and forgot about it for a while, but always came back because the mystery of the novel was always in the back of my mind, I couldn't quite leave it hanging in the air - I just had to find out what happened next! In summary, even though sometimes you did just scan across the words and wasn't fully 'in' with the story, it is definitely wor... moreth keeping at it as it does get better and let me tell you, the final climax is spine-tingling!Another reason why I enjoyed reading this was because I loved having different stories interlinked. You were aware that the numerous stories in the book were connected in a way, but you could never quite work out why. It was almost like you were the detective, not Byrne and Balzano. Also, the biblical aspect of the book was a clever, unique twist created by Montanari - something that I have never been privileged enough to encounter before now. I shan't let on any more, but I would definitely suggest reading this book - however, it is definitely not for the faint hearted and requires 100% of your attention throughout!
review 2: It took me a little time to get into this book but I persisted and was rewarded with a tale well told of good verses evil, in the form of Philadelphia detectives Kevin Byrne and Jessica Balzano verses a psychotic sadistic killer. I found it a little confusing at times and on more than one occasion had to reread portions to keep up with the complex and detailed story line but in the end it was a great read, I highly recommend it. less

I must get more by this writer. A great thriller, with an almost Gothic feel to it.
