review 1: In the 1985 Tour de France the American Greg LeMond helps the famous French rider Bernard Hinault, known as the Badger, win his 5th Tour. The help comes with the understanding that in the next Tour Hinault will help LeMond secure victory. Slaying the Badger delves into both of the main protagonists and also the supporting cast that leads up to the 1986 Tour de France. Perhaps the first 2/3 of the book just explores their life and background as well as providing insights into professional bike racing. The last third of the book is the most interesting part. It covers the race itself and I found it hard to not rush through it to see how each day worked out even though the outcome is well known. I liked the book, but less sure someone not interested in biking would like it ... more– is there anyone not interested in biking?
review 2: Sigh....remember the Tour before doping became rampant and Armstrong stole a long string of them by juicin' up? Here was one of the most exciting, with the Mailot Jaune winner a toss up until the individual time trial. Strong personalities and feelings prevail in the narrative, with a strong cast of supporting characters in both men's lives, just as we fans prefer. Lemond is a heroic figure, and Hinault compares well. I fear we will never have another tour like 1986! less

Fun, at times exciting book, with the badger driving this story just as he did in the Tour!

I like cycling but I'm don't really follow the sport. This was really interesting to me.
