review 1: A great read containing ample methods and (perhaps too detailed) use cases. At its best when the author is skewering many contemporary declarations of strategy that are, in actuality, mission statements or broad organizational goals (which are still important, just not actual strategies because they lack specificity and measures). Also some good rubs against new age thinking and notions of pop psychology that are not grounded in real-world business experience nor sound economics.
review 2: This has got to be the clearest and most practical book on strategy that I have read. Fed up with all of the vague waffle that passes as strategy in today's business world, Rumelt gives a clear diagnosis of the problem and shows how you can avoid falling into the same traps
... more. His antidote is simple and effective. I'm now using the ideas in his book to great effect, and would recommend that anyone involved in strategy formulation use them. less
