The Tome of Bill
review 1: Slightly better than the first book. That said, the author really needs to learn how to write characters in a way that differentiates their personalities. Everyone in this book still sounds like the same person in a different body. The story was more varied and interesting than the first novel, but also introduced some new issues for me to have with the series. First off, the author seems to have some juvenile and mildly offensive views about women. Second, the use of casual racism as a tactic wherein it's "okay" because the character says it is bad and feels bad for doing it...it might be possible to make work in the right situation; this is not one of them. Lastly, just about everything in the latter part of the book dealing with the main plot point appears to me to bord... moreer on old-fashioned Orientalism, which is downright disappointing.
review 2: This is continuing to be a fun vampire series. Bill gets shipped to China courtesy of Sally and finds that vampires aren't the most scary of the supernatural nasties in the night. One of the refreshing things about these books is that they are not romances. Bill isn't a supermodel who got turned into a vampire but instead is someone who still tries to have a life (after death). If you are looking for something different in the vampire genre these are worth picking up. less

Not as good as the first but still a fun, silly, and highly satisfying as a good light read.
