Percy Jackson and the Olympians
review 1: I knew they would win the war but I couldn't imagine how. They only had 40 campers and some hunters of Artemis protecting Olympus but they needed to battle Kronos' whole army of monsters. Granted, they had help from centaurs, Ares cabinand eve from the God of the Underworld himself but for a while I also felt like they didn't stand a chance. Especially with the Titan Typhon waking. The last book was epic. The prophecy is never what I think it would mean. Percy did everything he could because he thought he was the hero in the prophecy. While he played a big role in the war (leading a small army of demigods against legions of monsters is no easy feat), ultimately the prophecy wasn't just about his heroism. It was his, Annabeth's and Luke's. I am glad Luke had redeemed himself... more in the end. Like Silena Beauregard, he died a hero. And the Percy-Annabeth couple, like, finally! I had second thoughts about Annabeth's feelings until the very end. I really thought she loved Luke and her concern for Percy was merely friendship. It bothered me that she got jealous of Rachel Elizabeth Dare but I thought nothing of it. It wasn't until Luke had asked her directly that I was sure she loved Percy. It took them a while but they finally got together. Yay!As usual, Riordan has a way with weaving his tales with cool twists and amazing character development. A lot of things surprised me in the book. Silena's betrayal, Luke's change of heart, among other things. I love how Percy and the gang have grown through the books. He is a true hero and I really admire his bravery and strength. One of my favorite male protagonists ever.Rick Riordan, I truly love your work. The world you established for Percy Jackson was a thrilling adventure. I'm sad that it had to end but there is more in store for the demigods in your next series. I can't wait!
review 2: I was wary of the Percy Jackson series at first. Of course, it was with good reason, as I was a fan of Harry Potter and something just screamed that this was a knock off of that series (as if The Mortal Instruments didn't succeed at milking that cow enough, right?) As it turned out, I was correct. In the first two, maybe two and a half books, this series was so comparable to some of the earlier HP books, it was comical. Nonetheless, I actually enjoyed the twists on ancient Greek (and sometimes Roman) mythology that filled the pages of this series and I even found myself cheering on Percy himself in the final days of the battle. Are these books perfect? No. Of course, the idea of perfect literature is absurd and it can vary from reader to reader. For example, while I enjoyed how Riordan twisted and manipulated the myths, you will find reviews from readers who hated it. In the end, to each their own, right? This series is a quick read, that is entertaining and while you might find yourself frustrated at how dense Percy is at times, or some other trivial thing, they are a great example of a book that can be enjoyable for readers of all ages. And at the end of the day, that's not a bad thing. This is a series I will be reading to my son in a year or two and I hope, that should I find the time, I will enjoy rereading it for myself from time to time. less

You know you've finished a good book when you're smiling at the end. That's how I am at the end of the first Camp Half Blood series. There's so much excitement and battles in The Last Olympian that it keeps you on the edge of your seat even during a reread. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I really liked seeing glimpses of Luke's past. I also liked the history we got of Hades and Hermes. You can tell both of them loved the mother of their kids very much. Which is a very redeeming quality to see in the Gods.
