review 1: I really enjoyed this book. It was a pot luck selection off the library shelves when I had a mind blank in the local library and no titles or authors would come to mind. Its a great story and gives a real insight into the life of a girl who's bullied and ostracised at school (and in the wider community) because of her brother who is autistic. This is backdropped by the impact a new dam construction will have on the small town who are all forced to relocate as a result. I think it would be three and a half stars.
review 2: Really enjoyed this book! Told from the perspective of a teenager growing up in the 1960's, it reflects on the impact that a town which is deliberately flooded by the government (to build a dam) has on a community. The characters were compel... moreling and the plot was different than any book I'd read before. It was based on events that actually took place in New Brunswick and has certainly encouraged me to read a little bit more about these events. less
