review 1: I should start out by saying I love Greek Mythology. I've devoured any stories I could get on the subject since I was a kid. So I went into this with a heavy knowledge of the subject. This probably colored my enjoyment of the book. This story is the Dresdin Files meets Greek Mythology and not in a bad way. I loved the main character Plato Jones. I love his interaction with the various Gods and Demi-humans. The God were updated for the modern world while still retaining their old personalities and charms - or lack there of.Very enjoyable first start to a series. I look forward to the next book when it comes out later this year.
review 2: I saw this book at the library and decided to give it a read just because I love Greek mythology so much. I was interested
... more in how the author would pull this off. I also read the reviews, which sort of psyched me up about it.And no, it wasn't the almost cartoonish dialogue that seemed like it came straight out of a parody of a classic, generic mystery novel. What put me off the most was the blatant sexism! It took me 40 pages to truly hate the narrator. He is ruthless. So far, every woman that has been introduced so far is either a complete airhead or a woman with a "nice rack and a tight ass". I literally cringed when it described Hercules' wife as an airhead bimbo who overuses the word 'like'. I could even tell this was going to happen when he described his secretary as filing her nails at the front desk. The way he presents these situations are in a completely condescending manner, as if "poor women, they don't know anything else but beauty and vanity and (in the case of his one client) complete reliance on men". I'm really glad I didn't read far enough in to meet a goddess, as described by this narrator. I don't think I could handle it!! less

Quick, fun read. Nothing spectacular, but nothing to really trash the book about either.
