review 1: I randomly stumbled across this book and thought it sounded interesting. I am an "IT leader" (in that I lead an IT team, but I am a long way from CIO) and I was curious to read a "novel" about someone else's experience in an IT leadership position. It turned out to be an extremely engrossing read (although probably less so to people who don't work in the field) and gave me a much broader perspective on my own choices as a leader and on the IT policies at the place where I work. I dog eared plenty of pages so that I could take notes about concepts I wanted to keep thinking about and I dearly wish that more relatively dry topics were presented in this type of novel (or at least narrative) form!
review 2: This book shows what problems a CIO will face and need to d
... moreeal with, such as technologies, people, projects, budget, security, managers from other business units and, well your boss. The authors didn't give out any answer to many questions they raised but did suggest some models and frameworks that are useful to analyze the problems. In the end, there is no easy answer and it is all about trade-off, which is the job for a CIO. less
