review 1: I'm not normally big on the fantasy genre, but the premise of the first book got my attention, and then it totally sucked me in. It's a neat story, I was often holding my breath at the suspense, and the ending in the very last book was touching. I read this series in the dark in my kids' room while I waited for them to fall asleep (during a challenging sleep phase), listening to Peace Like a River by Chris Rice, and somehow the music perfectly suited the story. The two are now forever linked in my mind, so when I hear the music, I think of the story and get chills.
review 2: I absolutely love this series! The historical aspect really gets you thinking, and it's really fast paced! But this book didn't have as many exciting events, it was just more of a bridge fi... morelling in the gaps. But it did have a cliff hanger ending that left you wanting more! Xander is my favorite character and there wasn't as much about him this book either, so that sort of bummed me out a little as well. less
