review 1: Isolation from everyone around her is the only way Faye can keep her secret. She is different, she have visions of the future and the guilt of not being able to change what she sees leads her to avoid contact. She is so alone that when her Aunt and Uncle's yearly visit from Ireland doesn't look likely to happen she is devastated. Naturally shes over the moon when she finds out instead she gets to fly to Ireland to stay with them so long as she works for her uncle as a stable hand. This is the chance for Faye to change from what she has become. To make friends, perhaps even find a summer boyfriend. Things change irrevocably for Faye and she is exposed to a world that has been hidden from all else.I loved this book, there is always a space on my bookshelf for books including t... morehe fae/sidhe and refreshingly it is a completely different take on the Sidhe. This book has believable strong characters, takes you on a journey of self discovery, romance and magic. It wont be long before you find yourself addicted and reaching for book 2.
review 2: So, in a word: entertaining. I'd forgotten what the story was about having downloaded it a while ago and began reading it with pleasant surprise at the usage of Ireland and faery mythology. The teenage central character was interested, understandably withdrawn and seemed to possess a strength often lacking in other such teen-angst stories. The romance element was inevitable of course, though there came a point where I became ridiculously excited as the teen began actually questioning her developmental ability to love like she thought she was and doubt the whole "till death do us part" emotional responses. I was floored! Could this be a legitimate attempt at romance while keeping sanity? Alas my hopes were dashed as she spiraled again into unmitigated emotional craziness. Still fun, still entertaining, but having lost the chance to be different I lost the desire to read past the inevitable cliff-hanger ending. less
