Saddler's Legacy
review 1: Fascinating, well told fictional story based on real life abolitionists, Samuel Miller and Will Hanby. Elliott did not shy away from more sordid details of the times nor of her characters's lives, yet relayed them with grace and compassion. Tautly suspenseful til the end with multiple "black moments", keeping the reader gripped to the page. All characters, even the evil Jacob Good were multifaceted. The plot moved swiftly, and the faith thread was woven adeptly into a clever, provocative tale.
review 2: Will's parents die, leaving him to be sold as an indentured servant to a man who abused and mistreated him. Ann Miller is the eldest daughter of a saddler who must help take care of her younger sisters since her mother has died. Mr. Miller helps runaway slaves f
... moreind freedom. By the strangest of circumstances, Will and Ann meet. Eventually, the Miller family become key in helping Will find freedom as well. This is the first in a new series called "The Saddler Legacy" based on Will Hanby and Ann Miller of Pittsburgh. less
