review 1: The world and characters are interesting. Overall, I would suggest reading this if you're a big fantasy fan, but I can't say that I was wowed or overly impressed. It is hard for me to put my finger on exactly what left me uninterested. Overall, I would say that either Daniells introduced too many characters leaving me unable to connect to most of them, or at least she didn't provide enough growth to be interested in their successes. The pacing of the book bothered me and the way time lapses were dealt with left me a little uninterested. It took me longer to read this than usual.
review 2: This book was a meandering mess. I liked her King Rolen chronicles, but I tried reading this book and I was deeply disappointed. It seemed to me that some of the story lines... more needed to be tightened up and polished. I think fantasy authors leave all these hanging story lines so that they have room for never-ending trilogies and all that. It makes for a terrible reading experience. What happened to have a book stand on its own? less
