review 1: A fabulous mash-up of history and fantasy all surrounding the idea that Dracula wasn't just a novel but was in fact based in truth. I couldn't put this book down. Granted it was the audiobook version so perhaps a lot of my enjoyment was from the performance of the reader, but I spent all day yesterday stuck in bed with a chest cold and instead of watching tv, I ended up listening to the whole book. I only stopped to each lunch and dinner with my fiancee when he came home on breaks from work. Only a few books have I gotten so hooked on that I couldn't put down. This one is the first in a long time and if you are a fan of Dracula then I highly recommend picking this book up.
review 2: I'm afraid I can't star this book as I didn't actually finish reading it. I go... moret 2/3 of the way through and realized I was bored. The big reveal was complete (more of less - there may be a few more details forthcoming), and what remained was the working out of the task the protagonist had undertaken for himself. I wasn't attached enough to him to make certain he came out of it OK ,and I wasn't intrigued enough by the difficulty/trickiness of the task to keep reading. I don't believe this is a case of I'll put it down for a while and return to it (especially not since I plan to take to the trade-in place). I actually forgot I was reading it as I was reading. I'd see it on my nightstand and think, oh, yeah, I do have a book going. Sorry, Mr. Prouty. less
