review 1: I read this book in a single sitting. Although to be fair, it's more of an extended comic book. It's the story of the end of the lives of the author's parents from her perspective. And she happen to be a cartoon writer for New Yorker Magazine. The way they handle end of life issues, including loss of freedom, loss of dignity, the extreme costs and the overwhelming dread and guilt is touching and maddening.
review 2: I pretty much read this in one sitting. Funny and poignant and intense...the author, in her inimitable style, tells the story of her parents' aging and decline and death. My father is already dead, my mother lives 3,000 miles away and is still an active and self-sufficient 82, but I know it's coming.
