Rush Revere
review 1: Rusty "Rush" Revere got his nickname by always rushing to history. He is now a substituting at Manchester Middle School. He brought his horse, Liberty, which you will learn is no ordinary horse. At first, the students had to adjust. As Rush and Liberty go through the time portal to take a video for the history lesson, yes, Liberty can time travel, one particular student named Freedom spots them. He decides to take her and another student, Tommy, to the Mayflower. Immediatley things are not well in Holland and are worse between tha Saints and the Strangers on the Mayflower. As they join William Bradford on their New World journey, they knew things were bound to go awry. They met Sommoset and Squanto, ate at the first Thanksgiving and will now go somewhere else in, Rush Reve... morere and the First Patriots.
review 2: This book was way better than I thought it would be. It ended up being extremely entertaining and funny, not to mention how easy it was to read. Even though the book was considered a Historical Fiction, I feel it was more Historical than fiction because the book had occasional pictures of the tools they used and original documents. I would definitely read the second book when I get the time, because I think I already used up all of the "My Choice" sections on the semester genre page. The story begins in a Middle School known as Lanchester, which is where we meet substitute teacher, Rush Revere (obviously a mix between the author's name and Paul Revere), and his horse, Liberty. However, his horse is not what he seems to be, he can actually talk, vanish, and mainly time travel. It is the first day of Rush's being a substitute teacher at Lanchester, so he'll have a lot of explaining to do. He ends up making the kids have the best history class ever by going back in time to Holland and recording a live film about the Pilgrims who are about to board the ship known as The Mayflower. The kids get really excited and eventually figure out Liberty's ability to talk. However, only two kids are special enough to know all of Liberty's abilities, Tommy and Freedom. Tommy is a jock who appears to be a rebel and a troublemaker in class but is actually a really smart person. Freedom is a girl who is shunned and left out of everything, she has the ability to talk with animals. All four of them end up going throughout the first couple of years of the Pilgrims. From the boarding of the Mayflower to the first Thanksgiving tied in with a little bit of present day. It makes up to be a great book.My favorite part of the story would have to be when they shortly time traveled to a 1950 diner and had lunch. The food sounded delicious and that time period interests me, along with the 20s and 80s. My least favorite part was probably when the snottiest kid in the class, Elizabeth, has a feud with Freedom. I despise Elizabeth so much, she was such a brat all throughout the story (event though she wasn't in it that much). I'd recommend this book to anyone who enjoys or wants to learn U.S. History. I would also recommend it to people who want an easy-to-read and funny story to enjoy. I gave this book four stars because about 90% of the time it was great but some of the present scenes got occasionally boring. I would definitely read the second one, and I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I did. less
