review 1: Looking at some of the other GReads reviews, I don't get what they did not like for I absolutely loved this novel. It's based on a real place, I love the alternating chapters of the main characters. I was hooked from beginning to end. I also believe that we need more diversity in novels, and with Asian protagonists, this is a good addition to any collection. It's exciting, fast-paced and heartfelt.
review 2: This book grabs you with the first sentence and doesn't let you go. A gritty, action packed page turner. Do not be fooled, it is violent and contains content that may not be suitable for everyone - don't expect a YA romance novel or a "they lived happily ever after" ending. None the less, it is an excellent read. Focused on three main characters - sisters M
... moreei Yee and Jin Ling who grew up in an abusive household, and Dai, a rich kid from the other side of the tracks (so to speak) who tries to liven things up by becoming a "bad boy" who finds himself in deep trouble. Their lives converge in the Walled City. Loyalty, family, redemption and home are themes throughout. Multi-layered characters, fast pace and riveting storyline make this book a must read. less
