review 1: I really like the characters and the supernatural elements to the story. However, it's harder for me to like the high school drama parts and the stuff that affects fifteen year old girls seems pretty silly to me at times. The first 40 percent of this book seemed to have too much of that in it, but when it gets to the ghostly happenings I remembered why I enjoyed the first book so much. I bought book number three, so I do recommend this for fans of young adult paranormal books.
review 2: (This review may contain spoilers).Anyone who has read my review of Scary Mary will know that I really struggled to finish it because of personal reasons. Not so with this book. I was actually relieved to see the bullying take a backseat and it was interesting that Vicky re
... moreached out for Mary's help. I'm really curious to see if Vicky does in fact have psychic abilities. I'm figuring that she must do, if she was attacked as well.Speaking of Vicky... she actually showed that there was more to her than evil cheerleader in this book. It was good to see a... well, less-nasty side to her, while still in keeping with her bitchy personality. On the other hand, I was disappointed that Rachel didn't have a bigger part to play, since she was definitely my favourite character in book one.I have to say, Cy went right down in my estimation, but his brother took the place of my favourite male character. Well, actually, he tied with Max - who only became a favourite right at the end. Even though Kyle was a jerk in book one, I liked him quite a bit more in this book.I was really sad about what happened with Chowder. I adored him as a character and he brought an element of fun to lighten the darker parts. Of course, it doesn't hurt that I love dogs.I'm eagerly awaiting the next book in the Scary Mary series and this book managed to raise the entire series in my estimation. Normally, if the first book in a series is difficult for me to read, it doesn't exactly set a good precedent for the rest of the books. But it was very different here, hence the five stars. I think this might become a new favourite series. less
