review 1: Wondering if the author is president of some sort of Queen Elizabeth fan club? I prefer to read biographies where you wouldn't be able to tell the author's feelings on the person, this one felt so slanted to me. I don't think she faulted or admitted mistakes of the queen for anything in all the 688 pages. That said, it was so interesting to learn about the modern monarchy. My knowledge has definitely increased as to how England is run and the role of the monarchy.

... moreeresting to learn the details and decision making behind both the formal occasions and the spectacle we see), but the details of Elizabeth II's interests, hobbies, and vast knowledge and dedication thereof. Bedell Smith does a great job of humanizing the Queen as I am sure those close to the monarch, who granted access for this book, hoped would be the case. less
