review 1: Confession: I am not a good baker. With only a few attempts at making cookies, the cookies always come out as a thin cake. The cupcakes I make are always too sweet, or unevenly mixed or don’t look nice. I came across this book at work and flipped through the pictures. The photographs are absolutely beautiful and appetizing! I happened to have macadamia nuts on hand, so I decided to make the White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Blondie. I only had a tin foil pan on hand, which made me nervous but the blondies came very good. Maybe a tad bit too sweet, but the recipe was very easy to follow. I wrote down several other recipes to try in the future.
review 2: I'm a huge fan of Sally McKenney - her blog 'Sally's Baking Addiction' has without a doubt made me a better bake... morer! Her book is just as charming, the layout bright with high quality photos and clear, simple instructions. Each recipe has a little explanation and the 'Sally says' tips are very helpful. The ingredients are in grams as well as cups and ounces. Sadly however, I was disappointed. I think it may be a clash of cultures; many of the ingredients I wouldn't usually keep in the kitchen, and several recipes are far too sweet for my taste buds. As someone who loves sweet things, I found this quite surprising! But alas, my diet just isn't used to it and my family and I found it overpowering the other ingredients in places. I'll always recommend Sally to anyone wishing to learn how to bake. Her wonderful, bubbly, personality comes across in her book and blog, and she explains why she uses each ingredient and what it does in the recipe. Her blog is one of my favourites. But sadly this missed the mark for me a little. less
