review 1: I really wanted to read this book but I couldn't find it anywhere so I got it on Kindle, and I don't like reading on an e-reader so I'm not sure if that made me want to give it 3 stars instead of 4. I might change it. It only took 3 or 4 hours to finish so it was a very quick read. I think this book came up because I read a book by Blake Butler that I loved and it kind of reminded me of that style of writing a little, just because of how strange it was. It wasn't really about anything, just the weird, random day-to-day thoughts of some guy who lives in an apartment with his roommate in Chicago. He is most likely depressed. He has very absurd, obsessive thoughts and I thought I was the only person that had some of those thoughts. The only thing that really bothered m... moree was when there was a question, he put a period instead of a question mark, so it was more like a statement and it made the tone very monotonous but I kind of got used to it. This is the first book I've read by Sam Pink and I plan on reading more of his books.
review 2: This was a really weird little book, but it was a hell of a lot of fun to read. It seems like this really strange mix of Tao Lin and Knut Hamsun. I've never read anything quite like it. It is absurd, but most of the absurdity is in the mind of the character and in his reactions to things. It's funny, but self-deprecating as well in a way that goes beyond humor. In the end, I'm not quite sure what it is...but it is good. less
