review 1: If you like Ray Bradbury, you will definitely like this homage to him. It's full of ace stories, full of 'em! I actually can't do a good enough review right now because I read it in fits and starts (as one often does with a short story collection) and now do not feel I can do it justice. Plus I want to re-read lots of stories, and find out more about a lot of their authors because this book has opened up a whole new bank of them to me. And I guess that's the great thing about a collection of short stories by lots of different authors - you get a taster of the work of people you didn't know about. I forget the authors and titles, but the ones that stick in my head most are: one about a some children and a lake monster, one about a living tatoo, one about a huge obese man li... moreving in a future where being fat is banned. I have to go back and read some of them again. Sure, there were a few dull ones in there, that seemed to try to hard to fit Bradbury's genre or style or that were just bad writing. But overall, this was a joy. And I'll re-read.
review 2: I wasn't enthused by this collection. It took me forever to read (I kept misplacing it) and I actually thought I'd reached a point in my life where I was losing an interest in reading until my last 2 books... which I flew through. That's when I realized it wasn't me... it was the book. Mainly full of melancholy sci-fi stories... best in here is Margaret Atwood's "Headlife" which I LOVED. A few others were pretty good... but I'm mainly excited I finally finished this book and can move on to something else. less
