review 1: WOW - this book is going to make you think about life and perspectives and family and history. It is going to make you believe that people will never change and then it is going to make you believe that people can change. It is going to restore your faith in true love and belonging. It is going to be completely worth your time, because Sandra Kring is an amazing author! And, young Lucy is the perfect person to carry this story to us. She is plenty book smart and also wise beyond her years and in the end you will cry and maybe wish you had that kind of wisdom when you were 12. Loved it!!!!!!
review 2: Thank You For All Things is only the second book I've read by Sandra Kring, but keep this name in mind, Kring. Sandra Kring has moved quickly to claim a plac
... moree among my top favorite writers to read. She has several books out and they all sound good, I'll be looking for them.In this story, we meet eleven year old Lucy McGowan and her twin brother Milo. They are exceptionally bright and gifted children, especially Milo, who plays only a small role in this story. Lucy plans to become a psychologist and considers herself a people person. She watches and learns about her family and as we later find, she is not above snooping to learn what she wants to know. Her main goal is to find out who her father is. Her mom, Tess absolutely refuses to talk about Lucy and Milo's father. When Oma, the twins grandmother (and Tess's mother), ropes them into going back to Wisconsin with her to help take care of Tess's father, Lucy is excited at the prospect of having more family members to question about her own dad.Lucy finds everyone pretty tight lipped where her father is concerned. However, she learns that many people loved her grandpa Sam, and some people seem to hate him, including her own mother. Lucy discovers that her grandfather had been a hurtful tyrant to his own family, but cared a lot about what other people thought of him. She starts to understand more, much more than she should for a child her age, about why her mother has an attachment disorder. At times Lucy seems the only sane one in the family. There are several colorful characters from Grandpa Sam's past in this tale of learning to love and trust again after the unspeakable. Oma's calm new age presence is a comfort throughout. This is a story of strong women and someday Lucy will definitely be one of them. less
