review 1: I wanted to like this book more than I did. The author has a very interesting subject to discuss and her circumstances are really unique. She lives 24/7 in a corset and dresses in Victorian fashions. Learning about Victorian clothing styles and customs and the author's experiences with them made for interesting reading, but the author is very negative and cruel about the people she encounters. She writes such hateful things about other people that I had a hard time thoroughly enjoying the book. Some of the people were being annoying to her, but she should have dealt with it with more grace than she did. It comes off as childish and vengeful.
review 2: I give the side-eye to anyone who is infatuated with a time period which they never experienced firsthand, and
... morethe author goes far beyond romanticizing the Victorian era. Besides her obsession with what she claims to be several nearly miraculous benefits of wearing a corset, she is extremely condescending toward everyone and anyone referred to in the book, save her creepy husband, who gave her a corset for her birthday, after she told him specifically she didn't want one. Overall a light hate-read. less
