review 1: Yes, I am going to publicly admit I read this book. And I'm going to publicly recommend it to you! Surprisingly the rise and fall of civilizations throughout history are closely tied to a population's ability to deal with its poop. And this book tells the tale with some snickering (we're talking about potty habits here) and some clever facts. I have access to flush toilets. My world is glorious!!
review 2: I'm discovering, with time, that I am becoming more and more of a history buff...and this book is the perfect selection for all history buffs who have a quirky side!My only complaints, and other reviewers have said this as well, are that the author often repeats herself, and that the illustrations could be much improved! They are printed in this strange ... moreblue ink, are often too dark and blurry, and more often than not lack meaningful captions! For example, there was a photo of a very long, elaborate dining table set up in a sewer. I was able to tell, from squinting at the scrawl on the photo, that it was taken in Iowa, but there was no explanation at all! Why were people eating there, what was the occasion? Of course, being insanely curious, I'm going to have to Google it myself! less
