review 1: Beautifully dark, experimental, and intense, it gripped me from the first page. It's a fascinating (and harrowing) journey towards self-discovery, with a graceful, seamless love story at the heart of it. Both Diemer's storytelling and writing are haunting--completely captivating. The story is dark and oppressive in all the right ways, and gentle and hopeful in an equally lovely measure. The end filled me with a knee-jerk, tear-filled reaction of pure joy. I can't wait to read THE DARK WIFE.

... moreo regret, and Diemer shares the character a bit at a time so that you love Lottie despite what she was "before." But the reader never feels that these are stereotypes, which is one of Diemer's strengths as a writer. She uses archetypes beautifully. Twixt is rendered in beautifully ugly details that let you easily visualize the place where these characters are trapped, but Diemer deftly allows us to add just enough of our own interpretation.
