review 1: And, dang it, here's another author and series that I love that has taken a bit too much on her plate for one novel. Her characters scatter. Things happen, so much that it's hard to get invested in any of them. But then, of course, we are invested because we read books one and two and so we bring the knowledge of who those characters were into this book. A few new characters are introduced and those--especially the witches--had my brows bunching over my eyes in consternation. Also, I'm a bit of a romance freak, but love, in the case of our main character seems to wax and wane and I never totally understand all her friend-zoning. I will read the next book, how can I not?? I love this series. This was just not a strong showing.
review 2: I was confused for a lot
... moreof this book because I thought this was supposed to be a trilogy and I kept waiting for something, anything to happen. I was confused because what was a tightly bounded story has suddenly exploded. New characters! New concepts! New places! And all of this expansion of the universe of this story did not much to advance the storyline. Instead, it just muddled it. I was confused because characters that formerly seemed to have purpose were now just window dressing. Meh. Three stars for again featuring strong female characters. But I could take or leave the overall plot. less
