review 1: Its really easy to see how Celaena was captured a few chapters into the book with the way she announces I'M AN ASSASSIN to anyone who will listen. Seriously, what did she even learn as she was apprenticed to the so called king of assassins for how many years? The attitude of this character fits more in line with a modern day teenager and I can't help but picture the book as a play in which the lead role is being played by this teenage girl who is absolutely butchering the material. Its not a bad story but the characters weigh it down heavily.
review 2: aside from the unusual names of people and places that i had a hard time figuring out how to pronounce, i really enjoyed the book. a bit dragging on the back story of the main character (even with the help of the
... more 5 mini stories)but it adds to the suspense, guessing about her true identity and how it all adds up kept me turning the page every time. The love triangle is an added bonus but i find it hard to stick to anyone in particular for her. Although there are parts where I kinda find it hard to believe she is an assassin when she's easily cornered, i mean I have this idea that an assassin is smart, cunning, and observant but maybe it's just because shes young and still learning, will wait and see how the rest of the stories goes.. off to the next book then. less
