DO NOT READ IT IF YOU STILL WANT TO ENJOY THE BOOK THE FULLEST***********************Personal comment after finishing the book: Holy crap. I didnt see that ending coming. But lets start with the beginning. Summary:We... more first get into the whole world and the assassins job again. She has to kill the enemys (or at least some people) the king wants to see dead. But although Calaena is an assassin she still gives them the chance to flee. -> She doesn´t kill anyone from the list by purpose. Around the same time she discovers the meaning of the secret chambers in her bedroom. She gets to know Mort. A strange (and quite funny) doorknocker. Or at least something in that direction. In one of the secret chambers (where the sacrophags and the jewels and weapons of Queen Eleana are) she discovers a quest. A quest to find the Wyrdkeys. These Keys have special powers. In total there are 3 of them and they can open the door to another world ("The-" lets call it "Magic World"). Archer (someone Calaena knows from her past and someone she has to kill by the kings command) also knows about the keys and wants to get them to rule the world with his men and to overthrow the king. He wants to convice Caleana that Chaol (and the hole court) is bad (or at least on the wrong side) so he kidnaps Chaol. Meanwhile he commanded someone to kill Nehemia (the princess of Eyllwe) because she wasnt on their side anymore because she didnt want Archer and his men to rule the world. He thought that Nehemia would convince Caleana and he needed her (she is the best assassin in the world). So "he" murdered Nehemia. But Caleana gets to know this only in the end and first she thinks that the king did it and that Chaol knew it and so she gave him the fault of Nehemias death and she also tries to kill him. But then she is locked in the prison and also in her chambers for days because she is dangerous for others. Caleana first thinks that she can trust Arccher (at least a bit) because she thought that Nehemia did.Underneath the library Caleana finds a secret dungeon which is made of iron (magic isnt able to work through iron). And suddenly there is a weird creature that was there for a long time and wants to kill and eat her. Luckily Dorian followed her (he saw her walking dowwn the library with her "fighting outfit" and follower her). Together they are able to kill the creature and Caleana discovers that Dorian has magic. He already knew it because once he hit the wall and the window next to it was shattered but he didnt tell anyone. Later caleana is still sad about Nehemias death so she creates a portal with the book "The Walking Dead" (first I thought the TV show "The Walking Dead" was meant so it was a bit confusing). Caleana is able to talk to Nehemia (for a short time) but then she disappears and suddenly Archer is coming out of the dark. (Then she gets to know his plans of ruling the world and why he killed Nehemia and why he kidnapped Chaol). Archer has the book "The Walking Dead" and knows how to evoke a demon (or something in that direction) which appears in the still open portal where Nehemia has been standing. Meanwhile Dorian is looking for Chaol because he had a dream about something bad happening to Calaena. They both are entering her bedroom and they see the secret chambers which were hidden behind her wall. They run down the stairs and help Calaena. The demon flees into the portal and takes Fleetfoot (Calaenas dog) with him so Chaol and Calaena also enter the portal. In there Caleana is in a rage mode and turns into a Fae. She is able to kill the demon and flee with Chaol and Fleetfoot out of the portal. We then get to know that Caleana always knew that she was a Fae but never mentioned it in any ways because any kind of magic is forbidden and in Ardalan they cant even do such kind of magic anymore (except for witches and Dorian) which explains why she only transformed to a Fae in the portal (in another world). Chaol is worried about Calaenas life because she is witch and they are going to kill her when the king gets to know it so he suggests the king to send Calaena to Wendlyn to kill the royal family and to enlarge the kings kingdom. The king consents it and by the end of the book Calaena is on a ship to Wendlyn. But before she leaves she tells Chaol about the Wyrdkeys and reminds him about the date her parents were murdered. In his rooms again he looks for this date again and finds out that Calaena is the lost queen/heir of Terassen and her actual name is Aelin Ashryver Galathynius and that by sending her to the kings enemys he send her to her allies. Her cousins kingdom. Love triangle "summary":The entire book Dorian is still in love with Calaena although he says that he isnt... I think we all know that he is. Only in the end we can think that he justs wants to be her friend but he still acts like he is in love with her. Then we have Chaol. He also is in love with her the entire book but in the beginning he doesnt want to be with her because of Dorian. But his love is too big so he finally ends up being with Calaena (before he gets kidnapped). I didnt really like their relationship because in my opinion it was like "50 shades of grey". I haven`t read that book but I know what it`s about. A Physical relationship. Like Chaol and Calaena had when they were really together. They didn`t talk about interests or thoughts. The were only making out or even more than just "making out". But after he got kidnapped everything changed between them because Calaena still blames him kind of for Nehemias death because he knew that she was in danger. Only at the end we get to know that Calaena still loves Chaol although she doesnt want to agree with it. But to be honest I shipped Dorian and Calaena all the time. I dont even know why but I just wanted them being together c:
review 2: I want to petition to change this book title to "Love Triangles, World Development and, Plot Twists, oh my!" Where do I begin about Crown of Midnight. This book wrecked me in so many ways. Like come on, I need more Chaol!!! The world development in this book was insane. It was much more of a fantasy book than Throne of Glass. The magical elements were a lot to take in, but I didn't get too confused. And the plot twists. That's right, there were MULTIPLE plot twists. They blew my mind. I think I can officially say that Sarah J. Maas is one of the best when it comes to plot twists. I never thought a last page could shock me as much as this one did. This book was amazing, and I think I liked it more than Throne of Glass (if that's even possible). This book was so good that I finished it in one day. If this doesn't convince you to read the series, I don't know what will. I really recommend this with all of my heart. THIS SERIES IS A MUST READ!!!!!!!! less
