review 1: This is a wonderful book for shared read-aloud time since it has plenty of imagination and imagery for the kids, yet also gives parents a feeling of solidarity with other mom and dads as we all realize that we ALL have little ones who - at times - simply....don't....want....to go....to bed.The quirky, creative main character in this book is a little girl named Livi. Who thinks up every excuse in the book for why she's not ready for bed. Among other things, little Livi imagines herself as a tight rope walker, a zoo dentist, a scientist, an octopus and a teacher. At one point, Livi finally gets to bed but realizes she's sooooooooooooo thirsty that she must be in a desert and the only thing that will allow her to survive is a glass of water. Surely we have ALL been throug... moreh that one before!The art in this delightful book is bright, big and exciting. Livi's imagination bursts from the page with many delicious details. And the writing has just the right amount of repetition as it flows excellently from page to page. We enjoyed reading this one out loud at bedtime again and again and we laughed with our kids about some of the tricks and performances they go through in an effort to stay up just a bit longer."On My Way To Bed" is a great gift for any kid and/or for new parents. But it's probably best for those who have little ones that are old enough to stall at bedtime, so that everyone can appreciate the full effect of the story!
review 2: A delightful picture book about the adventures Livi has on her way to bed! What parent has not heard or experienced, "I am not ready to go to bed. Bed is for tired people. I still have energy!" Livi becomes an astronaut, a magician, a dentist, an acrobat and many other exciting people as a mostly unseen mom orchestrates the progress to move Livi along on her adventure. Will Livi EVER make it to her bed? This will be a fun read-aloud for the preschool through 2nd grade crowd!I received this book as an ARC at TLA. less
