review 1: Loved, loved, loved this book. I was so sad when the story was over. Reba Adams is doing a Christmas piece for a local magazine in El Paso, Texas. She sits down with the owner of Elsie's German Bakery for what she thinks will be a fast interview. But Reba keeps going back to the bakery again and again and becomes friends with Elsie and her daughter Jane. Elsie's story is the heart of the book. It tells of her growing up during World War II and of hiding an escaped Jewish boy for several months in her room. It's about Elsie's sister Hazel and her parents. The book also explores Reba's life with her family and her relationship with her fiance. The ending was bittersweet but totally fit. Highly recommend this book.
review 2: A blending of the old with the new! A
... moregreat read and a great work! The atrocities committed during WWII and how they affected the people that managed to live through it....that is what this novel is all about. Historically accurate this novel is soon to be listed as a favorite. How the past blends with the present is done with excitement and a true love for all the characters! If you would like to read a well written, historical and contemporary love story this is the book for you. I can assure you that once you start you will not be able to put this book down. I believe Ms. McCoy is just coming into her own with this book and is someone to look for great things from in the future. I know I will look forward to her next book and the one after that as I feel that we will continue to see great works from her! less
