review 1: If Tricia Tusa illustrated it, I want to read it. She has never disappointed me yet. Lizzie loves to entertain people (and her dog, Big George) with her stories. She's imaginative, she's clever, she's energetic. Then her new baby brother, Marvin, arrives, monopolizing part of her audience (her parents) and annoying her in general. Lizzie's stories begin to take on a new theme with villains who bear a striking resemblance to Marvin. When Marvin goes to visit Grandma, Lizzie is thrilled at the prospect of having her father to herself and all the time she needs for writing. Her inspiration seems to be missing, though. How can she get it back?Sullivan's story is both sweet and comical, but Tusa's illustrations give it zest. I love the curly hairdos she gives her characters. I ... morelove the faces with tiny features but tons of expression. I love the muted watercolors. I just love Tricia Tusa's work, period. This celebration of the ability of brothers and sisters to inspire us creatively is great for sharing with all kids.
review 2: I bought this book for my little girl, mainly just because Sarah happened to be in the store at the time and I jumped at the opportunity to have a book signed for my daughter. (Which she was so kind to do even though she was at the store for personal, not promotional reasons.) Once I got home and read it to her though, I never could have expected such a great book. I loved it and my daughter loved it so much that we took it to read to her class. My favorite part is when the little girl realizes that even though she's not a big fan of her baby brother, her life just isn't as exciting without him either. Oh, and you got to love that the little girl is a writer. ;) less
