OAK HARBOR, Wash. — An Oak Harbor police officer has been arrested and charged in a child pornography case.
John Little, 54, was charged Friday with receipt of child pornography in U.S. District Court in Seattle. The charge carries a mandatory minimum of five years in prison but can be punished by up to 20 years in prison.
In court documents, an FBI agent says a 13-year-old girl in New Mexico was “self-producing child pornography and sending it to numerous individuals on the internet.”
She communicated with people via Kik, an instant messenger.
Among those she communicated with was a man named John with a user name of “hawks1709.” She said he knew she was 13, court documents say.
She said she had sexually explicit conversations with John and sent him sexually explicit photos and videos, according to court documents. He sent her photos, including of his penis, court documents say.
A search of the girl’s computer turned up photos of a man in his 50s who was wearing a Seattle Mariners hat, court documents say. The FBI matched the photo to Little’s photo on his driver’s license.
When the FBI search his Oak Harbor home on Thursday, Little said he used “hawks1709” for online dating, court documents say. He acknowledged using the user name on Kik for sexually explicit conversations with persons he knew or had reason to know were minors, court documents say,
FBI agents arrested Little police headquarters Thursday night, the Police Department confirmed in a news release. He has been with the department since February 1989, police said.
He was placed on administrative leave and had to surrender his badge and gun.
The Whidbey Island News-Times said the policeman was a school resource officer and worked out of a high school.
Oak Harbor police intend to launch their own investigation into the matter.
Little is being held at the Federal Detention Center in SeaTac. He has a detention hearing scheduled for Monday.
