review 1: On the cover of this novel are the words; "Remember who you were." This is a great lead in to what is easily classified in my world as an outstanding work of fiction. The first book in a series, it definitely grabs you right from the start and leads you into a wonderful journey. I've always thought a good book was an adventure that you traveled in your mind, and Niccum definitely delivers with Living Soul.This is actually the second book in a series, but the great thing is that it can stand alone, you do not need to have read the first to understand anything. Understanding is something that Niccum has made easy for her readers as she is descriptive, without going overboard on the adjectives and metaphors. She defines her characters with finesse and it is hard not to become... more invested in them, so much so... that I admit, I shed some tears while I was reading this one. Story is huge here, and it is a well woven tale that covers every base and then some, leaving no strings left hanging, no plot line unfinished. This is indeed a very powerful novel.Classifying it is the only tiny issue, and it isn't really an issue... it covers so many genre that, I hate to see it pigeonholed. So, I would just say that I am definitely promoting this to the Young Adult/Teen book club at our local library, and recommending to all of you, my readers... read this book!
review 2: Angels, Fate, Do we have a choice? This book is so compelling that it is hard to put down...I read the first book in the series Veiled and could not put it down, and now I did the same with this book, forgoing sleep to read it. It takes us through a journey of love, loss and destiny..The story of Tess before she was born and then her life after she was born..The decisions we make in heaven shape who we are on earth..This book was so amazing. I cannot wait til the author writes the 3rd one in the series..This book will make you feel all kinds of emotions, It is well written and leaves you wanting more. Tess is such a wonderful character that you cannot help but root for her against all of the obstacles in her way..namely Agatha. You go on a journey that after have reading the first book the characters are all familiar. You find yourself remembering the things you learned in the first book carrying over to this book..When you read this book you will not be dissappointed. You will laugh, and then you will cry. I have read many books over the years but this book is one I will read over and over again.. As you journey through the life of Tess you cannot help but to feel all of the emotions she feels. If you never read another book READ THIS ONE..It is riviting! This series so far is the best I have read. The characters seem real and you feel vested in what happens to them. S.B. Niccum is a very talented author taking you on a journey and you will not be disappointed. less
