review 1: Not my cup of tea. I don't like to read about the "dark" things of abuse people suffer through or are confronted with especially sexually. It was an inspiring bio but I just didn't care to read parts of it. Scott had a rough up bringing but used it to push harder when others would have given up and failed. He used the verbal abuse he suffered as a child to keep him going when others did it to him later in life because he learned how to put it aside.
review 2: I really enjoyed learning about Brown's incredible and inspiring story, but the book itself was not very well written. It included detail after detail, which really let the reader picture Brown's journey from his sad childhood to senator, but at many points the details came off as just being listed. Also,
... moreat many points in the book Brown repeats again and again how great he thinks he is. He does have an inspiring story, but the book would have been much better if he was a little more humble. I only read this book because Brown came to speak at a basketball camp I attended last summer, but I have to admit that it was much better than I ever thought it would be. less
